Mechanical Intervention

Trident

Trendsetter's Trident series of subsea well intervention systems has been designed from the tree interface up to provide a cost effective and operationally robust solution for the next evolution of well intervention needs.  The TRIDENT Intervention series is designed in compliance with the latest industry standards and available in three bore and pressure variations: 5-1/8” 20,000psi and 6-3/8” 15,000psi.

The TRIDENT system offers an ideal rental replacement to CWOR.  The compact design makes the TRIDENT system uniquely suited for rapid mobilization and seamless integration into vessels and rigs of availability, providing a safe, cost effective and time efficient intervention solution regardless of the geographic location, intervention type or vessel selected.

TridentOVS

Trendsetter’s Trident-OVS, is a 6-3/8", 15,000 psi mechanical intervention system for the Gulf of Mexico.  In addition to bringing the "3 Modes of Operation" synonymous with the Trident Intervention System, Trident-OVS features a rotary deployable EDP.  To maximize flexibility, the Trident-OVS can operate with a drill-pipe riser and may also be reconfigured to work as a riserless system on the fly.  While most riserless light well intervention systems are limited to 10,000psi wells, Trident-OVS has extended that operational envelope with it's 15,000psi pressure control heads.  Trident-OVS is designed to interface with both vertical and horizontal subsea tree systems in water depths up to 10,000 ft.

Trident-OVS is comprised of three main modules with safety baked right in: the Lower Riser Package (LRP), the Emergency Disconnect Package (EDP) for riser-based operations and the Lower Lubricator Package (LLP) for riserless light-well operations. Trident-OVS includes Trendsetter's redundant Sentinel Control System to operate the Halliburton Open Water VETO valves,  delivering field proven shearing and sealing capabilities.

The latest addition to the Trident family, Trident-OVS is an industry game changer.  It is a versatile and cost effective open water alternative to the traditional MODU-based well intervention and workover operations.

HIGHLIGHTED FEATURES:

  • Metal-to-Metal Gasket Sealing
  • Shear/Seal Capability
  • 35 Second Safety System

Wellhead Fatigue Mitigation System

About the Wellhead Fatigue Mitigation System:

Two emerging technical challenges facing the drilling industry today are well fatigue and wellhead strength.

BOPs are increasing in size and weight, and drilling times are getting longer, causing wellhead fatigue issues to emerge as an industry challenge. New well designs must ensure that a high value well is engineered sufficiently to tolerate excessive fatigue caused by the newer and larger BOPs in use today.  Legacy wells were mainly drilled with smaller BOPs and with a conductor design that was less robust. When attempting to interface with newer generation BOPs this exacerbates an already tenuous condition. In both cases, there are times when a wellhead fatigue mitigation device can provide substantial risk reduction.

The tethered BOP Wellhead Fatigue Mitigation System alleviates these effects by arresting the motion of the BOP stack above the wellhead, thereby substantially reducing wellhead cyclic stresses and enhancing fatigue life.  Depending on the specific riser and wellhead configuration, the increased fatigue life is often seen to indicate, through analysis, an improvement of 25 to 1000 times the original unmitigated wellhead fatigue. No mitigations to the wellhead or casing string need to be performed. All modifications are performed to the BOP outer frame on deck.

An added benefit to the Wellhead Fatigue Mitigation System is the increased limits to the wellhead watch circle this system permits. Bending of the wellhead from lateral offset of the MODU due to drive off/drift off loads are reduced by factors of 3 to 4, enabling safer operations and decreasing position criticality. In shallow water, where watch circles can be very restrictive and approaching the Dynamic Positioning station keeping limits, this allows for a larger watch circle and decreased reliance on the DP’s station keeping performance.

Trendsetter’s Wellhead Fatigue Mitigation System is also available for rent.

Mudline Closure Device

The Mudline Closure System (MCD) enhances safety during deepwater or harsh environment drilling by serving as an additional shut-in device. It complements the rig’s existing BOP safety system with an extra ram and an independent control system.

Positioned below the rig BOP and above the wellhead, the MCD offers tubular shearing, complete well isolation, and the ability to pump into or produce from the wellbore. This system provides an extra layer of safety, enabling well security and safe detachment of the rig and BOP system if the primary BOP fails during a well-control event.

Field-proven, the MCD features an acoustic/electro-hydraulic control system that operates independently of the rig’s safety systems, BOP controls, and ROV backup controls. Acoustic communications facilitate remote monitoring of wellbore pressure and temperature near the wellhead when isolated.

HIGHLIGTED FEATURES:

  • Connects to 18-3/4” wellhead housing (10,000 or 15,000 psi)
  • Provides 18-3/4” upper mandrel connection (10,000 or 15,000 psi)
  • Includes additional BOP ram for shearing/sealing
  • Operates up to 15,000 psi with acoustic or ROV control
  • Offers subsea connections for well kill or flow containment
